In pursuit of peace is the theme of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs float in the 103rd year of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses parade" with the parade theme of voyages of discovery. This outstanding and colorful float is the thirty-eighth year (38th) in a row of our participation in the parade, and we sincerely want to continue particpating in future years. The float depicts two giant doves with outstretched wings, of which the dove is an emblem of the rebekah degree. The doves are separated by a large world globe. Arched over the globe and doves, stretches an oversized laurel wreath branch, which long has been the symbol of peace. At the base of the dove's body is a heart shaped sculpture which houses the oddfellows-rebekahs symbolic three links emblem. The message is friendship, love, and truth which promotes world peace and harmony. The dimensions of the float are 35 feet long, 18 feet wide, and 17 feet tall. The completely built float is covered with iris, leather fern, gerbera daisies, carnation petals, chrysanthemums, roses (of many colors), corn husk, many dried seeds, tree bark, and assorted flowers. All these items were used to make the float very beautiful for the viewers to enjoy. |
