This float was entered in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena January 2, 1956, by the Los Angeles County Past Deputies Association for the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of California. The float was made of over 150,000 Chrysanthemum blossoms, 4,000 Roses, red and white (each in a test tube of water), 2,000 Vanda orchids, 5,000 Stock blossoms red and white, 1,000 Bachelor buttons as well as Bird of Paradise plants and desert shrubs.
The cost of the float was $4500, which was furnished by the lodges of California with $25 donations from individuals and lodges in other jurisdictions. A group of local members also furnished about 700 hours of labor.
This float won 2nd Prize in our division and we expect to be invited to place an entry in the 1957 parade. We appreciate the inquiries received from other jurisdictions about our float project.
Paul D. Bishop, PGP, Chairman of the Float Committee.
